Evil Corporate Bastards

Is it just me that finds E.C.B's capitalising on terrorism and lobbying government to further infringing on civil liberties and basic human rights so they can prosecute young boys and spunk over their profit margins, just a little distasteful?

"The music and film industries are demanding that the European parliament extends the scope of proposed anti-terror laws to help them prosecute illegal downloaders. In an open letter to MEPs, companies including Sony BMG, Disney and EMI have asked to be given access to communications data - records of phone calls, emails and internet surfing - in order to take legal action against pirates and filesharers." full article courtesy of The Guardian

Right just for that everyones getting pirated DVD's for Christmas this year. viva la revolution, long live digital socialism!

American Hiroshima anyone?

Heres an interesting little article from Aljazeera.

"In 1962, the Joint Chiefs of Staff presented a plan called Operation Northwood, which is now declassified. It proposed conducting mass casualty attacks on American targets and blaming it on Cuba to rally public support for war against Fidel Castro."

David Dionisi a former US army intelligence officer and author of the book American Hiroshima talks insightfully about US foreign policy, the war on terror and more.

Chemical Weapons found in Iraq

Well if you go to war with a country over their hidden chemical weapons and then cant find them, what do you do? Bring your own of course; and use them in a city that should have a civilian population of over 300,000.

"White phosphorus:
Spontaneously flammable chemical used for battlefield illumination
Contact with particles causes burning of skin and flesh
Use of incendiary weapons prohibited for attacking civilians (Protocol III of Convention on Certain Conventional Weapons)
Protocol III not signed by US"

"A spokesman at the UK Ministry of Defence said the use of white phosphorus was permitted in battle in cases where there were no civilians near the target area.

But Professor Paul Rogers, of the University of Bradford's department of peace studies, said white phosphorus could be considered a chemical weapon if deliberately aimed at civilians."
